Green Power

Green power is a marketing term for electricity that is partially or entirely generated from environmentally preferable renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, biogas, and low-impact hydro. Green power marketing offers electricity consumers the opportunity to purchase power from environmentally preferred sources and support the development of renewable energy.
Everyone in Kentucky can purchase green power!
Many of Kentucky’s electricity suppliers offer green pricing programs so their customers can purchase green power directly from the utility company.
EnviroWatts (Touchstone electric cooperatives) Green Power Switch (TVA power distributors) Green Energy (LG&E, KU/ODP customers)
If your utility or municipality is not mentioned, it is a good idea to contact them directly and let them know you value renewable energy and wish to purchase green power.
Alternately, consumers can purchase renewable energy certificates or RECs (also known as green tags or tradable renewable certificates). RECs represent the environmental attributes of power produced from renewable energy projects and can be sold separately from the physical electricity. Anyone can buy RECs without having to switch electricity suppliers.
